Sunday means bacon,
eggs, tomato, mushrooms and beans with half a baguette and a big mug
of tea! That disposed of, we turned our attention to a weather
forecast that Derek has found for later in the week and how it's
going to affect our plans.
One of our objectives
was to spend a longer period, maybe up to 2 weeks at Tafraoute,
before heading further east to areas we have yet to see, having
missed out last year. But two things are now affecting those plans;
firstly we've heard that there could be problems with water and waste
disposal on the guardian parking area although there have been
conflicting reports. Secondly the weather forecast is indicating a
period of rain hitting the coast on Thursday and rapidly changing to
heavy rain and snow with below freezing temperatures at Tafraoute,
lasting for 4-6 days – bear in mind Tafraoute is around 3000ft up
in the mountains.
Plan A is to stay on
the coast, maybe moving a little south to hopefully avoid the worst
of it, then move on up to Tafraoute once it was clear, but this would
take around 10 days and seriously hamper our timeline. Plan B is to
move up to Taf' now for a few days then move further east, out of the
mountains and hopefully away from the bad weather: it's a bit of a
gamble but we're probably not coming back to Morocco, at least for a
couple of years, so we think the risk is worth it.
So we're going with
Plan B. Derek and June had never intended to go beyond Tafraoute so
they're going for Plan A and we'll hopefully meet up with them again
in due course. We'll miss them of course but we knew our ideas for
this year were different, just a little earlier than intended.
It's been another
glorious day with shade temperatures in excess of 30 deg and so we've
just relaxed with books, sewing etc. Tonight, after a nice beef
tagine which is filling the van with a delicious aroma as I type,
we'll spend a few hours together with our friends before going our
separate ways tomorrow.
